Here are a few news links that caught my eye this week…
In Indiana a women pleaded guilty to prostituting her pre-teen daughter. The girl told a school counselor and that’s how police found out.
As I’ve mentioned before, the number of articles on arrests for child porn (viewing, trading and creating) are too numerous for me to keep up with. This week another major international picture trading operation was revealed, including the indictments of 12 US men for their roles. This article talks about the case and mentions that (unlike before) law enforcement makes an effort to locate the children in the pictures to determine if the abuse is still happening and what can be done.
A pimp in California received 77 years in prison for sexually assaulting 4 teens as a part of pimping them out.
In New Jersey, a 38 year old man is charged with sexual assault and promoting the prostitution of a minor. The minor is a young man, now 17, who was 14 to 16 when the assaults occurred. He was given money afterwards so that’s where the prostitution comes in. The comments in this article are really offensive as people debate how a young man could be coerced and if he was paid, they doubt the coercion even more.
Lastly, sometimes I see an article and decide not to post it because I wonder about giving the media report too much attention. But a young trans person was murdered in Florida and I keep seeing references to the fact that the neighborhood where the murder took place was a known prostitution area. Maybe that does mean that Simmie Williams was involved in the sex trade, maybe it doesn’t. We won’t know for sure. But I do know that Simmie had a whole life, plans to attend Job Corps and plenty more going on and that’s been taken from all of us.
