Here in Milwaukee, efforts are underway to start a drop in center for homeless and runaway youth. The city has a street outreach program and two shelters specifically for homeless youth but no drop in center specifically for teens without a safe place to live.
We developed a survey to give to youth who are currently or have been homeless to find what they think would be necessary and helpful at a drop in center and completed surveys are being collected. Lots of work to do and it’s really in the beginning stages.
At our most recent meeting last Tuesday, our conversation on funding went all kinds of directions. We included companies who should be funding us, since we were definitely buying their products. We even joked about how we could offer naming rights.
I mean anyone who does youth work knows an essential item is any snack food that’s flaming hot. So why not the Flaming Hot Milwaukee Youth Drop-in Center? Has kind of a ring to it, doesn’t it?

Frito-lay can also feel free to send me of their product since I’m giving them free advertising here.
And while I’m at it. After supporting the Post-it people at 3M as a community educator with all this big poster paper, I could use some of that too.
