A couple of positive news items to start out with:

In Washington State, a new effort called Teen Closet will offer stylish clothing for free to teens in foster care. And a statewide meeting happened in Seattle for foster care youth seeking to make a difference on policies that affect them (they already got a few of the recommendations from last year’s meeting).

Lots of controversy about Portland Maine’s school board decision to permit several middle schools to make birth control available to students 11 to 15 years old. I definitely support the health care workers who want to offer the full range of health options for youth.

Also this week, a man pleaded guilty in a federal court in Minnesota of trafficking a minor and related charges. And a mom who I reported on recently pleaded guilty as well in Texas to pimping out her two daughters and received a 20 year sentence. If you’re looking for something helpful to do today - you could write to the news station on that last story and tell them how messed up it is to refer to the 14 and 16 year old girls as hookers.
