Weekly news links 10/17/07

Another week full of articles to review. I’m noticing updates on criminal cases but I don’t always post the most recent news or I wouldn’t have space to highlight more. By mentioning many cases once and linking to an original source, I’m hoping those looking to learn more can find the most recent information with the brief details I post.

Having said that, I’ll mention that an Urbana man mentioned here a few times received 50 years in the past week, 2 Toledo Ohio pimps in the news archives were convicted and face 40 years each and last week’s mention of an NY attorney who repeatedly sexually abused 2 teen girls and paid their mother for that access got less than 2 years.

On to this week’s news items: court cases and arrests that open up some of the complexities of what happens in the sex trade.

In Winnipeg, a teen is charged with pimping out her younger sister. In Tennessee, a woman is charged with pimping out 2 teen girls Good news that the Tennessee police did not arrest the 2 teens.

In Iowa, a man is facing trial for running an escort service that included using a 13 year old kidnapped by his son (he’s already in prison) and other teens. An adult woman, who had been in a violent relationship with him and managed the service for him, paid to send one teen home when she found out the girl’s age. She also crocheted while she waited outside for girls to be done with appointments (remember this if you only think of the sex trade as people who sell sex, people who buy it and maybe talking about people identified as pimps - there are a lot of people involved in different ways).

And in Texas a man, previously convicted in federal court, was arrested again for pimping teens.

Lastly, a more in-depth article follows a link I posted last month about the murder of Jennifer Chambers. Police have no suspects and are looking for anyone who could add some information. As Jennifer’s struggle with being involved in the sex trade has come to light, the family has been hurt by mean-spirited comments on internet sites. Here’s a picture of Jennifer.
