In this week’s news items that caught my attention:
In the tri-state area of Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia, a man plead guilty to conspiracy charges of convincing a teen girl to leave home and taking her to Florida where he pimped her out.
In Baltimore a woman is charged with multiple counts of pimping out a teen who had left home at the woman’s encouragement, as in she brought the scissors to cut off the home monitoring ankle bracelet tracking the 17 year old.
And here in Wisconsin a man pled no contest after holding a 15 year old girl in his home and gave her drugs in exchange for sex. He faces 7 years in prison and the article comes with one really scary picture of him. Another man faces 100 years for his role in the case.
In New York a man admitted to charges of statutory rape and “patronizing a prostitute” in connection to multiple charges and lengthy case where he had an arrangement with a mom to have sexual access to her 13 and 15 year old daughters in exchange for money, gifts and housing. The article makes note of his status as a prominent tax attorney.
This is part of what youth talk about when they explain how people at all levels of the community are involved in exploiting youth.

Lastly, recent reports talked about a sharp rise in suicide rates in youth - this article talks about how youth talking with each other helps break that silence that leads to attempts at suicide.
