The Young Women’s Empowerment Project worked together with the Committee on Women, Population and the Environment to develop a booklet for youth on the issue of Gardasil.
A little while back Gardasil hit the market, newly approved by the FDA, as a vaccine against some types of the human papillomavirus (HPV). A few types of HPV are directly related to cervical cancer. A lot of people are questioning why the rush to approve Gardasil and how Merck pharmaceutical company stood to benefit if states decided to make it mandatory for girls to receive the vaccine.
Now we have a great resource booklet, developed by youth with life experience in the sex trade, to ask questions and offer information. You can find it here.

I downloaded this last week or so and was glad I did. It’s a complex issue. Here in Richmond I’ve been going through a whole song and dance to get a doctor who is willing in the first place to administer the vaccine before I have a talk w/ my 13-year-old about how she feels about it.
